Blast from the past for Sevenoaks Hockey Club

14 August 2017

Having designed and built the original hockey pitch at Sevenoaks Hockey Club in 2005, Smith Construction were delighted to have been chosen to refurbish the well-used sand-dressed pitch, twelve years later.
Sevenoaks Hockey Club was formed in 1911 and has been home to many hockey teams.  At present, the pitch is used by the clubs 18 senior teams both mens and ladies plus the junior Sevenoaks HC. Local schools and external sports clubs also use the sand dressed pitch for games and training.   After twelve years of heavy use; training and competitions, the surface was in need of a refurbishment.

Following the removal and disposal of the existing Lano Excelsior surface and shockpad, Smith Construction installed a new insitu shockpad and laid TigerTurf’s Evo Pro carpet, a highly accredited surface which meets the requirements of FIH National Standards.
The refurbishment called for a new dugout, and, to add a personal touch to the facility, mats of the club’s name and logo have been specially stitched within the yarn and installed in the runoffs.  The refurbishment included new weldmesh fencing and new Evo Pro covered kick boards around the perimeter of the pitch.
The pitch was handed over earlier this week.  Lynn Dawson, Manager of the Hollybush Lane pitch says: “We are very pleased with the refurbishment of the much-loved AstroTurf at Hollybush Lane.  The club will be gathering on the evening of Friday 21st of July to let members have a first opportunity to play on the new carpet.
The facility looks very smart and we have been impressed with the efficiency and attention to detail of the Smith Construction contractors.  With the club now playing in the Premiership of England Hockey, the top ten teams in the country will I'm sure, be impressed with our home pitch, which will be a great asset to the continued success of Sevenoaks Hockey Club.”
