SAPCA members Synthetic Turf Management (STM) have been in Oxted, Surrey recently working on a primary education project. St Mary's School had an artificial grass full build MUGA installed by the team and pupils were welcomed onto the surface for the first time last week.

St Mary's School wanted a facility that would allow for a variety of different sports to be played on just one surface. Their existing field was boggy with bad weather and not suitable to be used throughout every month of the academic year meaning sports were limited.

A full build MUGA saw their field uplifted, a sub base created with sufficient sub soil drainage and 1500 square metres of coloured artificial grass designed, cut and installed. All in aid of creating a suitable surface for children to have easy access to athletics, football, cricket and netball. Last week the final steps of sanding the MUGA were completed and it was time to show the school pupils.

On Friday 8 December the STM team stood at the gates welcoming the pupils onto their new school surface and they were delighted! The whole school including pupils, teachers and parents had a chance to explore the blue, green and rust surface. Many commented on how impressed they were and excited to see the opportunities it would give the children in the future.

STM's Installation Director, Dave Peacock, commented, "Seeing the pupils running onto the surface for the first time was great, we know that the school will get so much from the new surface and that it will make a real difference to the school."
