Following a successful event in Scotland, the Sports Facility Construction "roadshow" now moves to south-east England in November, but to a new venue.

Scotland

With the support of sportscotland, SAPCA's latest exhibition and seminar was held recently at the home of Hibernian FC in Edinburgh, and proved very popular with visitors.

Delegates attended the one-day event from across Scotland and northern England, from as far afield as Aberdeen, Ayr, the Western Isles and Sheffield. Visitors enjoyed eight different seminars on sports facility design and construction that were given alongside the exhibition by SAPCA member companies. John Gheel of sportscotland, who presented an update on the current National Audit of Sports Facilities in Scotland, commented: "This was the second time that sportscotland has worked with SAPCA to support its Sports Facility Construction programme, and it certainly proved very worthwhile. The event enabled us to reach a wide range of people directly involved in sports facility projects, who will have benefited greatly from the seminars during the day."

South-East England

The final Sports Facility Construction seminar for 2002 will be held in the south-east of England on Tuesday 26 November, but due to increasing numbers for both visitors and exhibitors, SAPCA has just announced a change of venue - this event will now take place at Sandown Park Racecourse near Esher, Surrey.

SAPCA chief executive Chris Trickey explains: "As well as the seminar programme and exhibition, we will also be adding four key workshops to the programme. Together with the FA and Football Foundation, the LTA and UK Athletics, we will be holding dedicated workshops on the development of facilities for soccer, tennis and athletics. With Sport England we will also be presenting an important session for LEAs and schools on the design and construction of multi-use games areas (MUGAs), to present the new Design Guidelines for projects that will be funded by the New Opportunities for PE and Sport Programme."

Details of the event programme, including an invitation to register as a delegate, will be available on the SAPCA website in the near future.

Note: SAPCA and Sport England are currently working together to produce Design Guidelines for the New Opportunities for PE and Sport Programme. Once completed, the Design Guidelines will be available to download from the SAPCA and Sport England websites. Further information will be posted shortly. A briefing session on the Programme and the Guidelines will be held for SAPCA members on Thursday 28 November.
