03 December 2002

The ERDC Group has announced a significant move into rugby through an involvement with the Rugby Football Union, the RFU.

Together with manufacturers Tiger AG and Fieldturf, The ERDC Group will install two indoor artificial grass surfaces as well as a warm up area down one side of the pitch at Twickenham, the home of English rugby.

As part of the agreement the Fieldturf surface will also be recommended for the RFU academies around the country.

The Company says that Fieldturf, the leading "third generation" synthetic surface, is ideally suited to the needs of rugby and is already used by the Welsh Rugby Union and the New Zealand All Blacks.

Dave Reynolds, ERDC's Director of Sports Surfacing, said that "Twickenham is one of world rugby’s great stadiums. Our relationship with the RFU allows us to showcase the world's leading synthetic grass, Fieldturf, in this amazing location."

He continued, "I am certain the players will benefit from having such a top quality warm-up area adjacent to the pitch. The future international players in the academies will enjoy a consistent training surface all-year-round. Rugby can benefit greatly from the application of synthetic grass to training areas and where used indoors, it can overcome the weather problems during the winter months."
